Families, novice runners and outdoor enthusiasts are being invited to a Night Run event at the Longshaw Estate on Saturday 31st January.

Night Run is a new, national series of night time trail running events held at National Trust properties across the country and designed to give people the opportunity to explore the sites at night.

Runners at the Longshaw Estate have two routes to choose from; the Explorer route at 2.5km or for those looking for a little more action, the Adventurer at 7.5km.

Using public footpaths, the undulating Explorer route passes close by to the evocatively named Little John’s Well and Robin Hood’s Well. This course is ideal for walkers and younger family members.

The Adventure course will offer a superb night time run, and fingers crossed for a clear night as the elevated sections offer the reward to some stunning views. Enjoy the opening Explorer loop before continuing along established Peak District trails towards Nether Parley. The gradual, final ascent back towards the finish will reward all participants and senses.

Event entry tickets include the memorable running experience, on site catering, well-marked reflective course signage, timing and results service and a glow in the dark medal!

National Trust Sports Development Officer at the Longshaw Estate, Ruth Tweedie, says: “We hope that the event will attract people from all over Derbyshire and Sheffield who enjoy being in the outdoors.

We have an outdoor activity programme here at Longshaw which offers regular running sessions to help people improve their fitness and general health so we have lots of opportunities for all to come and train for the event.”

Ruth added: “Seeing places in the dark can put such a different perspective on the look and feel to them. Longshaw is glorious during the day and beautiful and atmospheric at night, an experience not to be missed. I think seeing people being active and also enjoying the scenery will be great, but the fact we will be adding some spooky surprises will be even better!”

Registration starts at 4.30pm with the event starting at 5.30pm.

This is a night run so don’t forget your head torch and make sure it has fully working batteries too! Good quality hand held torches are an option too.

The course routes at Longshaw offer good tracks and trails, however sections of the course will be hilly and uneven in places and proper running and/ or walking shoes are strongly recommended.
