Join Lord and Lady Edward Manners in celebrating Christmas at Haddon Hall’s exclusive carol service, with Repton School’s Head of Academic Music

Enjoy a splendid run up to Christmas with Haddon Hall in Derbyshire’s Peak District.

Haddon Chapel Candlit

Haddon Chapel

On the evening of Friday 12th December, join Lord and Lady Edward Manners at an exclusive carol concert in the wonderfully atmospheric medieval chapel at Haddon Hall, which will be lit by candlelight and adorned with winter decorations that shall enhance its splendour.

Head of Academic Music at Repton School, Peter Siepmann, will head up a choir of eleven singers who will perform from within the chapel’s ancient walls, which – at over 900 years old – have witnessed services of the Manners family over the centuries, making the building resonate with history.

The choir, made up of scholars from the Choir of St Peter’s Nottingham, where Peter is also Director of Music, will be singing a wide range of choral music from 16th century Spain and the work of Tomas Luis de Victoria, through the Romantic repertoire of German composer Peter Cornelius, and 20th century English composers such as Elizabeth Poston and David Willcocks. (A short clip of the choir performing is attached to the email)

There will be a special candlelit tour of Haddon Hall and drinks before the concert. Tickets are £55 per person and include tour, drinks with Lord and Lady Edward, followed by the concert.

The concert is part of A Manners Family Christmas taking place at Haddon Hall from 6 – 17 December. Highlights of the hall’s Christmas opening include:

·         Explore the Tudor Kitchen where you will find an artisan market, gift shop, demonstrations, gift-packing and hamper creations.

·         The richly panelled Tudor parlour shall be home to St Nicholas and story-telling, and in the magnificent Long Gallery a great dining table will be set for a Manners family Christmas lunch.

·         The Tudor Group will be visiting Haddon and bringing it to life with their authentic Christmas preparations. There will be music, plays and performances throughout the house over 6 & 7 December, evoking a time of Christmas past at Haddon.

·         Candle-lit tours take place on 9th,10th and 11th December – a beautifully atmospheric way to see the hall.
