21st Bolsover Christmas Festival and Lantern Parade have begun, in what is set to be the biggest and brightest in the event’s history.
Paraders of all ages have begun building lanterns in a sparkling range of colours, shapes and sizes to light up Bolsover in a spectacular after-dark parade on 29 November.
Lantern making workshops will continue for the next two weekends and are open to anyone wishing to take part.
There will be more craft and gift stalls than ever before, a packed programme of festive music and family entertainment, and a licensed food and drink area for the new ‘beer and brass’ theme introduced for 2014.
The Rotary Club of Bolsover has already begun shining up Santa’s sleigh for the event, and has developed a special letter to Santa, which can be downloaded from www.discoverbolsover.co.uk/meet-santa.
The Rotary Club is inviting children to bring their letters to the festival where there will be a special post box to be sent direct to Santa.
“Our Christmas Festival and Lantern Parade is a magnificent event for all ages which gets better every year,” said Councillor Paul Cooper, Mayor of Bolsover. “With a fantastic line up of seasonal entertainment, this one is set to be the biggest and best yet.”
Lantern making workshops are open to everyone and will take place on 15, 16, 22 and 23 November from 10am to 4pm at Bolsover Assembly Rooms. Workshops are free to attend with a small fee for materials. A competition will be held to name the best lantern on the day, with this year’s theme being ‘best landscape.’
Bolsover Christmas Festival and Lantern Parade will take place on 29 November from 12noon, when Christmas Festival entertainment will begin in the town centre. Lanterns will be lit at Bolsover Castle at 4.30pm, with the parade marching through the castle grounds and the town from 5pm. The event will finish with carol singing in Bolsover town at 6pm. Entry to the event is free.
