Hoe Grange Holidays represents one of the highest scoring Gold Award self-catering businesses graded during 2013 throughout the UK and Ireland. The nomination shows a real commitment to sustainable practices as businesses cannot enter the awards they are selected solely by GTBS on the score they attain at their grading.
As the only Derbyshire business to reach the finals Hoe Grange Holidays is up against 35 other businesses from England, 22 from Scotland, one from Wales and one from Northern Ireland. All were nominated after being assessed for their innovation, cost savings and green ambassadorship.
Andrea Nicholas, Director of Green Tourism, said: “The annual awards aim to honour those businesses and organisations that have done the most to promote sustainability within the industry by implementing cost-saving practices that help the environment, improve customer services and benefit the bottom line.”
“The Goldstar Awards are a recognition of the best of the best in Britain when it comes to creating and maintaining a thriving sustainable tourism industry.
Hoe Grange Holidays is very much a sustainable business, combining a range of renewables to offer low-carbon holidays. David and Felicity Brown are both passionate about creating a wonderful holiday experience for guests, whilst leaving minimal impact and have strived to minimise use of fossil fuels; 75% of energy needs are produced on site with a 10kw wind turbine, solar power enhanced with a tracking system, heat pumps and zero waste to landfill. Together these initiatives have reduced carbon output by over 21 tonnes per year.
Felicity Brown commented “We are delighted to be finalists in these prestigious national awards. We hope our actions inspire guests and businesses alike to adopt sustainable practices, and minimise our impact on our beautiful Peak District countryside.
The winners will be announced during Green Tourism Week at the second Green Tourism Conference to be held on Monday 10th November at the Palace Hotel, Manchester.
