Millions of potential visitors from the Gulf States are being targeted as part of a far-reaching digital campaign to promote Manchester and the Peak District as a prime international tourist destination.
The Peak District played host to a party of ten delegates from the Gulf and their escorts during filming for six short video films on the theme of Countryside is GREAT, commissioned by national tourist board VisitBritain as part of its wider GREAT Britain marketing campaign.
Horse riding on the Tissington Trail, fly fishing on the river Wye on the Haddon Estate and adrenalin-fuelled adventures at Go Ape in Buxton will be included in the films, which will be branded as ‘From Dunes to Peaks’ and will focus on food and drink, adventure and culture.
During the three-day visit, the Gulf party was also treated to a leisurely ride through some of the area’s most beautiful countryside in a vintage taxi courtesy of Winster-based Vintage Adventure Tours.
Tourism businesses and accommodation providers across the area were involved in the visit, organised in partnership with Visit Peak District & Derbyshire, the area’s official tourist board, and promoting Manchester as the international gateway to the Peak District.
“It was a great pleasure to welcome visitors from the Gulf and VisitBritain representatives to give them a flavour of the huge variety of unique and wide-ranging activities and experiences visitors can enjoy when they stay in the Peak District,” said David James, Chief Executive of Visit Peak District & Derbyshire.
“We’re delighted that the area, and Manchester as its major international gateway, is the focus of this imaginative digital campaign, which has the potential to reach so many people, by packaging the vibrant city and accessible, special countryside as an attractive international destination.”
Annique Labuschagne, Manager Gulf Markets at VisitBritain, added: “This is an exciting initiative that helps us to showcase the beautiful British countryside and remind millions of potential customers across the Arabian Gulf countries why they should choose Britain for their next holiday.
“The Peak District offers a wonderful mix of GREAT heritage, stunning scenery and a warm and welcoming culture, and will provide a beautiful backdrop as the Grand Départ rolls through the area as part of this year’s Tour de France.”
