Travel gurus at the Lonely Planet describe Derby as the “best place to drink real ale in the World” and the folks at CAMRA reckon there is more real ale choice in Derby than anywhere else. Hey, who are we to disagree? The CAMRA Summer Beer Festival is just around the corner from 9 – 13 July, making an even bigger reason to visit.
The emphasis though is on the quality of the ale and its impact on your tastebuds, as well as on your pub experience. Derby’s real ale houses come both traditional or modern and attract a mature, independent clientele.
This year the Mild in May promotion is joining up with the promotion of the Summer Beer Festival to give you a trail through 22 of our local establishments. The trail will run through May and June up to the start of the 37th City Charter Summer Beer festival on 9th July.
To complete the Mild trail, visit each pub on the card and drink at least a half pint of Mild. Note some pubs cannot guarantee to stock Mild for all of May, so if you are travelling specially try to phone ahead. To show their appreciation each pub will issue you with a red sticker. Attach the red sticker to the appropriate box on the trail card and don’t forget to score the beer in the box below see below for Beer Scoring.
