The trophy is due to arrive at Bakewell visitor centre on Monday June 16 where it will be available for press photographs and private viewing ahead of going on public display for six days – from Tuesday June 17 to Sunday June 22.
Bakewell visitor centre is open every day from 9.30am to 5pm. It is housed in the 17th century Old Market Hall and is fully accessible.
Tony Favell, chair of the Peak District National Park Authority said: “It is a real honour for us to host the trophy in the National Park and we hope lots of people will take the opportunity to come and see it close up.
“With the race less than a month away, knowing the trophy will be in Bakewell really brings home the fact that this fantastic world class event is nearly here.
“It’s wonderful for the Peak District National Park to be associated with the Tour. It gives everyone who lives and works here a unique opportunity to showcase our beautiful landscapes and vibrant communities to the rest of the world in the hope that people will visit us again in years to come.”
The Grand Départ Stage 2 will leave York on Sunday 6 July when the world’s top cyclists will take the challenging hilly route from York to Sheffield 125 miles (200km), including 18 miles through the Peak District National Park.
The race enters the national park at Holme village, rides over Holme Moss – the Peak District’s greatest cycling hill-climb and one of the race’s toughest challenges which carries points for the King of the Mountains title – onto the Woodhead Pass, through Langsett and Bradfield to Sheffield.
Thousands are expected to visit the national park to see the race live and millions will watch on TV worldwide.
