Say cheers and celebrate the best of the Peak District

Visitors to one of Buxton’s most eagerly anticipated annual events will be saying ‘Cheers’ and celebrating the best that the Peak District has to offer next month.

Entry is free to the hugely popular Great Peak District Fair, staged by High Peak Borough Council, which is at the town’s Pavilion Gardens again on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 October where over 100 exhibitors and stallholders will all be selling products and produce crafted, handmade or hand reared in the Peak District.

The fair will once again feature the Buxton Beer Festival which will celebrate its fifth birthday by starting on Friday evening for the first time. Award-winning ales from a host of breweries from across the district will be available with the chance for real ale lovers to sample three beers for the price of pint whilst enjoying the live music in the festival marquee. Enthusiasts can also follow the town’s Real Ale Trail.

But it’s not all about the beer – fun, family activities, fine art, tasters and demonstrations, street entertainment, balloon modelling, a climbing wall and falconry and lizard shows are also all on the menu along with music from Fairfield and Tideswell Brass Bands.

The Peak District Artisans’ will be showcasing the talents of 25 of the region’s best designers, artists and contemporary artisans at the Pavilion Arts Centre and the Octagon Hall will be packed to the rafters with stalls selling everything from food, furniture and photography to ceramics, carvings and crafts.

As well as the Beer Festival Marquee, The Promenade will also be home to food and drink stalls, live music and children’s attractions while the family-friendly Pavilion Café and mezzanine Art Café both offer fresh, locally-sourced fare.

Councillor Godfrey Claff, executive member for regeneration, said: “The Great Peak District Fair is a real highlight of the autumn calendar which attracts more and more people to Buxton and the High Peak every year and provides a real boost for our retail economy.

“The programme in once again packed with a variety of activities and attractions to suit all interests and age groups and I’m looking forward to another record-breaking attendance.”

The Fair is open from 9.30am to 5pm on both days. For more information, call 01298 23114 or visit
