#Buxton gears up for packed summer programme

Buxton’s annual festival season is about to get underway bringing colour and life – along with thousands of extra visitors – to the town.

Over the next two months the historic spa town is the venue for a packed programme of cultural and family events including Buxton Festival, the internationally renowned opera, music and literary event; one of the largest Fringe Festivals in England with a programme of over 500 theatre, comedy, music, film, exhibitions, poetry and children’s events; the Gilbert and Sullivan Festival and Fringe; and the ever-popular Well Dressing  and town carnival celebrations.

Councillor Caitlin Bisknell, Leader of the Council, said: “This is always an exciting time in Buxton with so much going on and so many additional reasons for people to come to the town.

“We want to make it a pleasant season for everyone – residents and visitors – and to support the many and varied events taking place. I hope all those here this summer really enjoy the experience and everything that this area has to offer.”

And to help meet that objective the Council is extending the opening hours at the Pavilion Gardens under-croft car park to 11.30pm every night from Friday 5 July to Sunday 18 August.

Councillor Godfrey Claff, executive member for regeneration, added: “We know that there will be extra demand for car parking spaces in the coming weeks and extending the opening hours for an additional one hundred parking bays at the Pavilion Gardens is one way of meeting that demand. I’m sure people will appreciate the opportunity to spend longer enjoying Buxton’s summer programme.”

The under-croft car park will be open from 8am to 11.30pm everyday throughout this period and there will be no changes to the charging periods or tariffs.
