Buxton Festival’s newly appointed Executive Director Randall Shannon and his team are working with local, regional and national artists, authors, musicians, organisations and businesses to ensure the 2013 Festival attracts record audiences.
Randall brings a wealth of experience, having previously worked as an Arts Manager and Consultant to a variety of arts organisations and film and television companies. Randall and Stephen Barlow the Artistic Director are currently putting the finishing touches to a dynamic programme, which will feature a high quality opera, music and literary series. Due to the growing needs of the festival, three new appointments have been made, thanks to Catalyst funding from the Arts Council and secure financial position.
The original Festival team of Lee Barnes, Claire Barlow, Mary Jarvis and Louise Potter has been joined by David Heugh as the new Director of Fundraising, Liz Mackenzie as PR and Press Manager and Robbie Carnegie as Marketing & Web Manager. David, who is from Sheffield, has a wide range of fundraising experience and great connections with the Lyceum Theatre and Sheffield businesses. Liz and Robbie have both worked in the Marketing team at Buxton Opera House. Robbie has greatly enjoyed his past 8 years at the theatre and in his spare time he is a performer and director for Buxton Drama League. Liz, who most recently worked for Visit Peak District, the area’s Tourist Board, is keen to raise the profile of the Festival even further and attract audiences from across the UK to experience the event and many things the town has to offer.
Randall Shannon comments, ‘I am thrilled to be working with a team with such great enthusiasm for the Festival and so much valuable experience. I hope the 2013 programme impresses audiences, whether this is their 35th or first visit to the Festival.’
Dame Janet Smith, Chairman of Buxton Festival added, ‘This is an exciting time for the renowned opera, music and literary event. I greatly look forward to working with Festival team to build on our past successes’.
